A group featuring a member of the “Temptations” was supposed to be performing in Eastern Carolina Saturday, but event coordinators cancelled the event.

The Dover Reunion group in Craven County says they were not able to come up with the money to pay the group or cover their hotel bill. The event coordinator says they will refund all money from ticket sales.

Dover is a town of less than 500 people in Craven County. It is located off Highway 70 between New Bern and Kinston.

Below is the statement, which WITN received in an e-mail from Maxine White at 5:28 a.m. Saturday, from the reunion group.

“Through no fault of the Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, Maxine White, President of the Dover NC 2010 Reunion states that they will not perform because the non-profit does not have the money to pay their fee or their hotel bill.

Although they arrived in New Bern on Friday, July 16th set to perform on Saturday, July 17th at 9:30pm, in the Town of Dover, they cannot because their booking fee was never paid to them says White.

“I apologize to the entire group and those who supported my efforts to boost the economy of the Town of Dover and all tickets sold for their performance and that of Billy Scott and The Party Prophets will be refunded.”

The “Temptations Reunion,” a group made up of original and new Temptations, will perform in Dover.

Dennis Edwards, one of the original members, says appealing to all ages has been their goal from the start. “We did the songs because we tried to make good clean music about the love between a woman and a man.”

Paul Williams Junior is now singing in his fathers spot. “It’s very exciting for me cause as you know my father was an original member, so for me to come into the same position as my father is great.”

The group takes the stage in Dover Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the civic center.
