Isn’t it weird that just by dating somebody your career can turn to shit? I’ve always been a Ben Affleck fan, maybe it’s because I am a huge Kevin Smith fan and he’s a big Ben Affleck fan that it rubs off on me. I don’t know. He’s been a bunch of amazing movies, and he’s been good in those movies as well, movies such as “Good Will Hunting,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Extract,” “State of Fear,” “Dazed & Confused,” “Mallrats,” and “Jersey Girl.” You know what, fuck you, I like “Jersey Girl” and he was great in it, so shut up.
Affleck took a turn at directing a couple of years ago with “Gone Baby Gone.” “Gone Baby Gone” was flat out phenomenal. It turns out that Ben Affleck might actually be a better director than actor and I thought he was a pretty good actor. Benny is back in the director’s chair for the upcoming movie “The Town,” only this time he is starring in the film as well. Ben Affleck has a pretty good eye for what it takes to make a good movie. Sure he has done some campy blockbusters (“Armageddon”), but if you get a couple of blockbusters under your belt you become bankable.
Sure “Pearl Harbor” and “Gigli” were missteps, but who doesn’t have a misstep? If Bennifer wasn’t all over the tabloids, “Gigli” would have bombed and then been forgotten about. Instead Affleck’s career was nearly ruined. It wasn’t until Affleck teamed up with Jimmy Kimmel that people really started to see the genius that is Ben Affleck.
“The Town” looks amazing. Based on the trailer I’d say it looks like a mixture of “Point Break” and “The Departed.” You can view the trailer here. “The Town” is the next movie that I’m super psyched to see. I’ve only gotten really excited about seeing a movie a few times; hopefully Affleck won’t disappoint and from the looks of the trailer I don’t think he will.
