Yogi Berra: The Yankee
Some names just say Yankees with one word. DiMaggio, Jeter, Torre and Babe send the message that the Yankees are on top. Even in years when the New York Yankees were the biggest and the best, major league baseball fans will always recognize those gorgeous pinstripes. George Steinbrenner made it clear early in his ownership of the Yankees that wearing those stripes should be a source of pride for those fortunate enough to call themselves a Yankee. As Yogi Berra mourns the loss of the Yankees owner, he also talks about the importance of the stripes.

Not all Yankee players and coaches have left the organization happy. But rarely do they fail to return to make their relationship right with Steinbrenner. Joe Torre actually called George the day before his 80th birthday to reconcile. Even Yogi Berra left the Yankees with hard feelings.
The best part of the iron hand that Steinbrenner ruled with was even those who left with hurt feelings managed to make amends before Steinbrenner’s death this morning. George has single handedly took the nickname of The Boss and built an empire in New York. As with any business, fellow businessman aren’t always going to agree. While Yogi Berra did harvest some hard feelings at one time, he was quick to say that he and George were close in the last few years and that the Yankees have certainly lost a glorious owner.
